Mitigating the Parentless: The Analysis of Parental Authority in Batik Rifa'iyah Community

The Phenomenon of Parentlessness in the Rifa’iyah Batik Community from the Perspective of John Locke. The author found indications that this phenomenon of parentlessness affects the system of cultural inheritance within the Rifa’iyah Batik Community. John Locke’s concept of parental authority in family education can be applied to prevent the phenomenon of parentlessness in the Rifa’iyah Batik Community. Objective: This article analyzes parental authority within the Rifa'iyah family in the batik community to prevent the parentless phenomenon. Methods: The study in this article employs a literature review method, sourced from books and scientific journal articles. Findings: The analysis results indicate: (1) absolute authority through commands or instructions can be applied to children under 7 years of age, (2) flexible authority with advice as the output can be applied to children over 7 years of age, (3) the age range of 3–7 years is the golden age for instilling the habits of learning batik and reciting poetry in children. Conclusion: In summary, within the Rifa’iyah batik-making family’s educational context, parental authority, as described by John Locke, aligns with the stages of children’s cognitive development outlined by Jean Piaget.
