Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach on solving elementary school student's mathematical problems. This research was conducted in one of the elementary schools in West Jakarta. The method used is quasi-experimental with pretest and posttest. The instrument used is a test of mathematical problem-solving abilities. The study results reveal that using the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach to students' mathematical problem-solving skills has increased. This can be seen that the lowest value in the control class is 25, and in the experimental class is 44, while the maximum value in the practical course is 60. Based on the results of hypothesis testing, it is known that the significance value in the hypothesis test is 0.136> 0.05, which means that the experimental class data and the control class are homogeneous or the same. It is known that the sig(2-tailed) value is 0.011 < 0.05. Then in the Mean table, the average value of the Experiment class is 56.23, and the Control class is 49.96. Thus, learning mathematics on fractional material positively affects students' problem-solving abilities. So the average problem-solving ability using the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach has increased significantly.
