The urgency of examining Islamic education at the junior high school (SMP) level has become increasingly significant within the dynamics of globalization and digitalization, which directly influence the character formation of students, thereby requiring a more comprehensive and contextual understanding of the foundations and objectives of Islamic education (Nurussalam, 2022). This study aims to explore in depth the philosophical dimensions underlying Islamic education and their relevance to teaching practices at the SMP level. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach through field studies, utilizing data collection techniques such as in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation analysis involving teachers, students, and curriculum instruments. Data analysis is conducted interactively through stages of data reduction, presentation, and verification to obtain valid conclusions. The findings indicate that the conceptual foundation of Islamic education is rooted in the normative values of the Qur’an and Hadith, with a primary orientation toward the development of religious character. However, its implementation still faces several challenges, including the dominance of cognitive approaches, the tendency to use conventional teaching methods, and the suboptimal evaluation of affective and psychomotor domains (Rohili, 2025). These findings contribute theoretically to strengthening the integration between the philosophical and practical aspects of Islamic education, as well as offering practical implications for developing more holistic and contextual learning models. Therefore, transformations in learning strategies and evaluation systems that are adaptive to contemporary developments are necessary, along with further research focusing on technology-based innovations and comprehensive value integration.
